Unit 15 is about evaluation and testing. I read that there are three ways to assess a student's language level: tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. There are many different kinds of tests. There are placement, diagnostic, progress tests and external examinations. Placement tests are given at the start to determine a student's language level to be used for forming groups of students at the same level. Diagnostic tests are designed to tell you and the students what they do and don't know at the beginning of a course. Progress tests are given periodically on work covered to determine how a student is progressing. There are external examinations offered by organizations, and proficiency tests that measure proficiency in English at particular levels.
