In this module I learnt the details of how to approach teaching vocabulary in class and further to teach grammar as well as functions. Vocabulary must be selected in accordance with the content of the lesson and the language level of the learners. Learners need to fully engage with vocabulary words in order to grasp them and may need the teacher to provide pictures, realia or even mime or action. A straight arrow is easier to use but can also be varied according to the learners needs. Grammatical structures are taught in order to help learners create meaning and understanding of various forms of the word as studying vocabulary in isolation would not be a viable way of learning language. A patchwork method is suggested for this section, however, it can be tailored to suit the aims of the lesson. Finally language functions were addressed in which covers the purpose for which certain language is used in its various forms (inviting, refusing etc.). A boomerang lesson is suggested for this type of lesson but as mentioned before, can be tweaked to the needs of the learners.
