I found it interesting learning about the different skills we use when reading or listening, such as predicting, scanning, skimming, and the way we use our prior knowledge to comprehend information. All of this happens naturally, so it's useful to consider when teaching students - for example, we can encourage them to gain meaning of phrases or words from context, rather than having to understand every single word. This could save them a lot of headache, and allow them to learn to take in the relevant information and come back to those words they didn't understand later. The materials a teacher chooses to use for a lesson should be interesting to the students. If they enjoy the subject they will more likely enjoy listening to or reading about it, and thus make them enthusiastic.
