The most important thing I learned while working through this unit is how poor my English grammar knowledge was and still is. For example, I never even heard of a gerund, a verb that functions as a noun, even though I often use gerunds when speaking, as in, "Do you mind my writing about this?" English grammar is actually very fascinating but is also full of contradictions and exceptions, I wonder how an English Language Learner can learn to speak fluently if he or she is always trying to process through every grammar rule involved, including the exceptions? I know I am having difficulty.
