This unit did an excellent job at breaking down modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. Modals are used to express multiple ideas such as obligation, probability, permission, ability, advice and more. There are different degrees of formality that go along with using modal verbs. When breaking down modal verbs, I found the chart included in this unit to be extremely helpful. Roleplay, rules, and signs are all great teaching ideas when introducing modal verbs. Active and passive are two different types of passive voice when speaking in English. Both active and passive keep the same tense; however the active is demonstrated by the main verb whereas the passive is shown using the auxiliary verb 'be'. Independent, dependent and relative are three different types of clauses. The three different types of phrasal verbs are intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable. Keeping track of the phrasal verbs I have taught already and using them naturally in the classroom setting will help my students become more comfortable with using them.
