Teachers have many options for teaching aids and equipment to enhance lessons and keep students' interest throughout. Even if a school does not have the latest technology, many alternatives are available beyond a course book and a lecturing teacher. For example, visuals such as real objects, pictures, and photos can be shown physically or on a screen or Smartboard to stimulate interest, spark discussion, demonstrate or explain a concept, or help students remember a concept. Computers can be used by teachers to plan lessons, search online for ideas and resources, or present slides or videos on a screen, and they can be used by students to search for information, find supplemental material or learning games, type assignments, or create projects. Whiteboards are helpful in presenting information throughout a lesson for all students to see and have a reference for their own note-taking. Recording technology can be used to play back students' speech to hear and correct errors or to create a project such as a skit or presentation. Teachers should vary the types of teaching aids used as much as possible so the lessons do not become too predictable and so there are always fresh, stimulating activities to hold their interest and attention so they can get the most out of the learning process.
