Overall, this content has taught me what are the main roles of a teacher and a learner. It is important that the teacher possess qualities that can help a students’ success in learning a new language. A teacher should be kind and have a working knowledge of his/her subject. They should also be patient, respectful and sensitive to the students needs. The roles the teacher plays within a classroom is highly important. They will need to be able to prompt students when stuck or lost and be an accessor taking in information students give which will evaluate their progress. The teacher will also need to facilitate groups and pairs and guide students to use their new working knowledge of the language. It is important when teaching a language to model for correct prononciation and grammar. The teacher will also need to manage the classroom and monitor activities. Whereas, the students roles, levels and qualities can effect the overall fluidity and ability of his/her learning. I understand the degrees of each level of learners now. This will give me an ability to evaluate each students level effectively and give suggestions and feedback needed for the student to advance. I feel that I have learnt many different aspects from this unit to help further my ESL teachings. This unit has brought light on my current weaknesses as a teacher. It’s a balancing act where I need to be more of a Facilitator and Accessor and less a Prompter in my online classes.
