This has been an incredibly interesting and very challenging unit with many new 'Science' concepts brought to the understanding of language learning and development. The disappointment has been in the assistance from the tutor when asking for a model for one question within the task sheet and being told to make an attempt and then to submit this, before providing a model and then being told this is the model we would use with students. Not so. We would provide a model first, then elicit and then allow students to work independently. After two points of communication around 'stress' I had to find answers myself to begin to understand it. I am incredibly annoyed at the tutorial team for their lack of support and attempt to teach, as opposed to respond to a need. I believe I have taught myself.
The deeper understanding of sound formation was insightful as was the new learning for me in understanding the phonemic alphabet. I never knew there was a complete chart. The learning about stresses was most confusing. I can hear the individual sounds of letters and then the emphasis within as sentence. Determining the emphasis of a syllable within a word contained in a sentence is a real challenge. Clarity around intonation, articulation, stress provides a deeper understanding and in turn, clarity to teach.
