This unit discussed the four different present tenses: present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. Common usages for present simple tense is when discussing habits/routines, permanent situation/facts, present stories, commentaries, and newspaper headlines. The base form of the verb is used except for he/she/it in which an "s" or "es" is added to the base form. The present continuous tense is used when discussing actions at time of speaking, frequent actions, and developing situations by adding "ing" to the base verb. The present perfect tense uses the auxiliary verb "have/has" along with the correct past participle and is used when discussing past actions with an unfinished time, past actions at an indefinite time, actions that began and is true now, and past actions with present results. The final present tense is the present perfect continuous that also uses "have/has" as well as adding "ing" to the base verb. This tense is used for incomplete and ongoing activities with a specified time and for recently finished, uninterrupted activities with present results. The unit gave wonderful ideas for teaching activities.
