Considering that student-teach rapport is extremely important for learning, it follows that it is important for the teacher to be aware of what a given group of learners will likely respond best to and to take the appropriate roles at the appropriate times accordingly.
For example, since learners age 2-7 will often have difficulty staying focused, it will be quite important for the teacher to be an effective manager, and to facilitate activities that the students will enjoy. The teacher's role as a model for this group is not nearly as important as it would be for a group of adult learners, who will often find this to be the most important aspect of having a fluent or native speaker at their disposal, while they do not lack the ability to concentrate for long spans of time with minimal input from the teacher.
Similar differences can be marked for all age groups, and classes will vary based on culture and even based on the individuals who make up the class and their rapport, so one should not take these to be immutable laws of English teaching, but rather as a good starting point when beginning with a new class, and something to remind oneself about and consider when encountering difficulty.
