In this unit I have learned what the receptive skills are and how to develop them during your lessons. As oppose to the productive skills, which are speaking and writing, receptive skills include listening and reading, as learners do not need to produce language to do these, they receive and understand it. All of these four skills are very important and depend on each other. For example, the improvement of reading skills will benefit to the development of writing skills. Reading and listening skills include a number of specialist skills such as predictive skills, deduction, ability to find specific information, ability to get the general understanding of the content. Teachers should try to keep their lessons balanced and try to incorporate both receptive and productive skills.
