In the twentieth unit of our ITTT course titled "Troubleshooting", we learned about first lessons, warmer activities, different levels, large classes, the use of native language, reluctant students, and difficulties with listening texts.
In the first section we learned about tips for teaching first lessons which include establishing rapport with the students in your class, finding out information about the students, finding out the student's learning needs, and finding out each student's English level. In the second section we learned about different warmer activities that can be used to help the class to be more engaged which include games like hangman, pictionary, tongue twisters, and memory games. In the third section we learned about tips for teaching different English student levels which include using different group materials for each group, teaching the same material but using different tasks, not do anything, or pair the weaker students with the stronger students. In the fourth section we learned about tips for teaching large classes which include using worksheets, using pair work, be clear with the entire class, choral repetition, appoint class leaders, and organize class dynamics. In the fifth section we learned about the use of native language in class which include making sure that the activities chosen are not too difficult, making sure your explanations are clear, encouraging the use of English where applicable, and only responding in English. In the sixth section we learned about who to teach reluctant students which include using pair work, using controlled practice, using role-play, and using a tape recorder.
