In this unit I learned about the five conditionals and how to report speech. Zero conditionals are for when the consequences are irrefutable if the conditions are met. The first conditional expresses an outcome that will probably happen if the conditions are met and the second conditional expresses hypothetical situations that are unlikely to come true. Mixed conditionals express hypothetical past situations and their hypothetical outcomes. When reporting direct speech, the verb tenses often change and for questions, question words remain while question marks are removed, or if there are no question words then 'if' or 'whether' are used. Pronouns can also change depending on context. Generally, present tense verbs become past tense and location can be expressed differently, for example 'this' becomes 'that' and 'here' becomes 'there'. So much changes with reported speech that it must be introduces slowly and with a lot of examples and practice.
