This course has been tremendously helpful. Although I am a native speaker, there is a difference in knowing the right answer and helping someone else learn how to know the right answer. A non-native speaker cannot always just pick the answer that “sounds right”; they need to know why. Through this course I feel I have received a solid foundation from which to teach and I know I will refer back to the information in all of the lessons. This course has also helped me to discover concepts that I need to study more extensively so that I can better articulate and teach them to non-native speakers. I am currently teaching english and tutoring, so I am able to put into practice the things I have learned each week. I also hope to go on and get my Masters degree in Teaching english as a Second Language, so this class has been a great precursor to that.
I have loved the option of going through this course with a mentor/tutor he has been a fabulous mentor. I have appreciated all of his comments. He couched all of his tips, corrections, and suggestions in lots of encouragement. He was also very prompt in returning the units after correction.
