This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Personally, before starting this course I had already taught english for some years and over these years I have experimented and found some solutions about how to cope with many different situations and problems. This course has brought all this into full light, as if I had already had an intuition about what the problems and the solutions might be, but just had not fully grasped them yet.
There was, of course, also some new information, especially about the building of an ESA lesson, which, I think, will be very useful for me in the future. I will certainly start planning my lessons in a different way (planning also the times needed for each activity) and thinking about my own performance as a teacher and how to improve it. Doing all this practice about planning has made it become almost a routine to plan in this way, even if not always on paper.
I also learnt very useful new knowledge about phonology, which I will certainly be using in my future lessons. I understand I have been underestimating a very important part of the language, and ignoring it during my classes.
All in all, the most useful units from my point of view were the ones concerning the teaching methods and theories, which have given me a lot to think about. I will try to adapt my methods to the ones learned and experiment with new ones. This course has given me the basis to be able to do so.
