This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Since I have spoken the english language ever since I was born I sometimes take it for granted, I use grammar and language automatically without appreciating the rich grammar involved e.g. Parts of speech, Present, Past, Future and Conditionals tenses, pronunciation, phonology, reported speech, Modals phrasal verbs and passive voice. This course has helped me to appreciate the english grammar and has awakened my willingness to read further and be able to teach and convey my enthusiasm to my future students.
This course has re-enforced my passion to teach as I have learned that in order to teach language effectively to one’s students, one must used the tried and tested theories, methods and techniques laid out in this course.
I have learned that both the teachers’ and students’ attitude contributes to successfully teaching language. The teacher must try to encourage interest in his/her class by keeping it interesting and lively, while teaching grammar as most students tend to get bored when it comes to learning complex grammar.
I have also learned that the teacher’s lively attitude can also help him hold his students attention therefore making it easier to Manage the class,
I have learned that lesson planning is an integral part of teaching and without proper lesson planning, appropriate course books, lesson materials, equipment, teaching aids, constant evaluation and testing, teaching can be a cumbersome experience.
Before I started this course I was afraid that I was not cut out to be a teacher, I thought I did not have the right character to be a teacher. Now that I am at the end of this course I feel very confident and ready to start my new career, as I have learned that every teacher can choose teaching techniques and methods that suit his/her character.
