This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Personally, I have learned quite a deal on some grammatical aspects, while solidifying my pre-conceptions of what a teacher's role in the classroom actually is. Although I am a hands on person, and I know
a lot of the concepts I am still a bit fuzzy on will come together when I attend my first class, I feel confident that what I have learned from this course will aid me in not appearing/feeling incompetent when I attend my first session! Learning the differences in materials (authentic, created), resources (video, OHP, resource books), lesson planning, I feel are invaluable and one of those key things I had hoped to learn when I decided to take this course (and teach abroad). I truly believe I have accomplished my goal of refreshing and gaining an expectation(although the classroom setting maybe a different story) of what the classroom experience will be like!
All I have learned-I plan to put into action as soon as I meet my
co-teacher for the first time. I will follow all the steps I have learned from this course such as; establishing rapport, having fun, but relevant activities, paying attention to student's needs--but most importantly, patience, understanding, and the gift of encouragement.
