I entered the JET Program with a Business degree straight from college and I didn't have any previous experience teaching english. I have learned a lot about teaching on the
job but I still felt I needed to improve my teaching skills. Personally I found the ESA lesson planning model was the most helpful. Before taking this course, I always planned my lessons using the ‘straight arrow’ pattern regardless of the topic. Now, I have more flexibility in planning and teaching my lessons. I believe it will have a positive impact on the students by introducing difficult
material in stages and building on what has been learned earlier in the lesson. Students would have more time to absorb the material which helpfully would help them learn better. The list of resources in Unit 17 was especially useful when I ran out of ideas for lesson planning.
