Besides learning a lot about grammar, which I wasn't taught much of in public school, I gained a great deal of knowledge about how to teach. Yes, I knew english before beginning the course, but if I was then asked to take what I knew and teach it to someone else, I wouldn't have the slightest idea of where to start. When we speak english as our first language, we often know what is grammatically right, but we don't necessarily know why, or how to explain it to someone else. Not only do I have the practical tools, (although there is still much to learn) I have gained a much greater understanding as to all the different aspects that come together to teach successfully. Everything that I've learned can be easily
applied to a classroom setting and even now, before teaching, you have a good idea of what to expect in the classroom. As for putting this to use, I think it begins with knowing that I don't know what this is all about, and using the resources that I have for guidance. Completing this course in no way tells me that I know everything out there, but it is a step forward, and much of what I learn in the future will be gained through experience.
