This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This course has definitely been an eye opener for me. In the beginning I thought that the course couldn’t be too bad, but once I got to the grammar units I started taking strain. I have learnt so much from this course. I have learnt that grammar and vocabulary are very important aspects of teaching but pronunciation should not be forgotten and that writing is also very important people tend to get side tracked with verbal language skills but forget that it is important to also be able to write in english and read in english.
I have also learnt that there are so many different levels of teaching and that there isn’t just beginner or advanced students but that there are actually also many in-between stages of learning.
I have also learnt new skills in myself that I didn’t know I had before. Because I have studied teaching before, I sort of knew how to write a lesson plan but writing lesson plans for this course has been quite challenging but I have really enjoyed it. You have to really think out of the box at times and finding, activate stage activities for grammar can be quiet tough. I have had to think out the box and challenge my creativity. My lesson planning has definitely improved and I feel more relaxed writing them up now than when I wrote my first lesson plan.
I have also found it fascinating that you can use so many teaching aids and it’s not only the use of a whiteboard or a computer but this course gives you ideas of how to use a video camera and many other forms of teaching aids. I have never through of bringing a video camera or tape recorder into the classroom it’s a fantastic idea.
I enjoyed working at my own pace and on my own time in this course. I would definitely consider doing further tefl course study and broaden my knowledge a little more.
I have also learnt that you can never know enough english and that there will always be more to learn.
I am really glad that I have completed this course and can’t wait to start planning my ideas for travel. I have always wanted to go to thailand and do some teaching over there but as I said in my application that I am still waiting for my residency in New Zealand so as soon at that comes through I will use this course to teach the foreign language students that come to New Zealand some english. However I feel very strongly about going to thailand and teaching there for a few weeks or months at a time. I will just have to wait to see what the future holds. I love how this course is internationally recognized and that I can go travel the world with it.
By doing this course I am sure my own language, sentence structure and way of speaking has improved as I have learnt so much more about english and how it should be used.
I feel more at ease with the language myself and I can’t wait to share the knowledge I have learnt with others around me and with people struggling to use, speak or write the language. I do believe that doing this course will benefit me in many stages of my life and in any occupation I decide to venture into in the future.
