This unit has taught me the importance of teaching productive skills, speaking and writing. Speaking and writing are equally important skills needed for communication as well as accuracy and fluency. It is important that the teacher creates the desire to communicate in the class. This can be done by creating interesting activities or games in class. There are three general speeking activities that we can employ in the class. Controlled activities, guided activities and creative communication. Controlled and guided activities are focused on accuracy which is why drilling and prompting are used. This provides a save enviroment for students that are less confident. Creative communication is more focused on fluency where the aim is to promote conversation like debates and role play. You should also always remember to prepperate before the lesson give clear instruction and a sure that your students understand the task,evaluate and monitor during the activities and give been back after the activities. This unit has also taught me that writing skills are some of the harder skills to teach especially if the students native language shares no similarities with the written English language. The same principles for teaching speaking applys to teaching writing. You need to create intrest to ensure participation. Because penmanship is not strictly important it does help to always encourage students to improve it as it can be a source of judgement especially in the professional world. In conclusion there are many fun and entertaining games that can greatly assist teachers in creating an entertaining learning enviroment that promotes communication. It is important to create a comfortable enviroment where students are not afraid to speak but want to speak.
