In this unit, I learned that there are four basic skills in any language, which are receptive skills, including reading and listening, and productive skill, speaking and writing, and how to teach these skills effectively. There are a few different ways we read and listen, including but not limited to, predictive skills, scanning, skimming, deduction from content, and detailed information. An effective way to teach these such receptive skills are through pre-teaching vocabulary before entering the lesson, use carefully selected texts that fit a variation of interests for a wider scope of audience, and use the ESA method in terms of understanding a concept related to receptive skills.
