I have learned from this lesson what the importance of teaching receptive skills to students. It is imparative that they learn both how to read and listen in the new language they are obtaining. However, our motivations may be different. Maybe a student would like to put together a new T.V. stand and will need to read the instructions. He will be reading for a purpose. Another student may be interested in football and want to know the latest update for his/her favorite team by reading the headline in the local paper. He/she will be using predictive skills. Whatever the reasons, a teacher will need to integrate these skills into their lessons so students can benefit and succeed in learning a new language. I felt this lesson helpful in determining the different motivations and specialty skills when reading and listening.
