I was surprised at all the levels of ESL learners. I teach Spanish to English-speaking high schoolers and try to adhere to the standard course of study and standards for each level of learner. Most of the the ESL levels match quite nicely but as I was reading the lesson and thinking about my own students, I realized that none of my own students are true beginners as we have such a huge influx of Latin American population as well as native speakers in school, I was surprised to see how much they knew in the first level of Spanish. I was excited that there was a bit of foundation already established.
