This unit is all about classroom management and teacher/student interaction. When building rapport with your students, and managing your classroom, never underestimate the power of eye contact, body language, your tone of voice, and calling your students by their name. There are different ways of grouping your students, based on the activity and desired outcome of the lesson. There are pros and cons of whole-class grouping, pair-work, and individual work. It is also important to put thought into classroom arrangement. Things to consider when doing so include class size, available space, student personalities, and nationalities. You can separate students into rows, circles/horseshoes, or separate tables. It is important to not keep your back turned away from the students for too long when writing on the board. The main thing that will keep a classroom running smoothly and keep classroom management at a minimum is building good rapport with your students. When students feel respected and known they are more likely to behave for you in your classroom.
