This unit was all about the vocabulary, grammar, and functions of learning/teaching a new language, in this instance, English. Just like in Unit 2: Methods, Techniques, and Theories, this unit suggests the Engage, Study, Activate method in teaching the new language. There is a Straight Arrow, Patchwork, and Boomerang approach to the ESA method depending on what your students needed. There are different activities and lessons to be taught in each phase of the ESA lessons. Mixing up what you use will keep class new and fun, while returning to familiar activities will create a sense of flow and confidence in the students. The origin of the new vocabulary words and how long the words have been in use are not needed. When teaching new vocabulary or structure it is more important that students learn the meaning of the word, how to use it correctly, and pronounce it.
