This unit was about productive language- speaking and writing. These skills are just as important to the receptive skills of listening and reading. Teachers tend to spend the least amount of time teaching writing, although it too is a very important skill for the students to attain. These skills focus on accuracy and fluency. Accuracy is the production of correct language, while fluency is the flow of the communication and can be more creative. Some activities to hit on accuracy are drilling, prompting, model dialogues, and guided role-play. Some activities to hit on fluency are free role-play, discussions, debates, communication games, and information gaps. There are many different activities to encourage student interaction from pair-work to whole class communication activities. It is important to give a lot of encouragement during lessons focused on these skills because students might be afraid to try because of the possibility of making mistakes. It is important to give positive feedback after the lesson is completed.
