In this Unit we have covered content related to the teaching of vocabulary, grammar, and functions. There are methods that are effective in the introduction of a new language such as the ESA method. There are also sequences that can be used within this method such as straight arrow ESA, boomerang ESA, and patchwork ESA. The gramatical structure taught in class will mostly depend on the level of the students. For the selection of vocabulary words, the teacher may use criteria such as frequency, coverage, and teachability. On the other hand, language function also is an important part in the introduction of a new language. Boomerang and Patchwork sequence can be very effective for the activation of language. Overall, I can say that from this unit I have learnt important information regarding the teaching of vocabulary, grammar, and functions. I learnt the best approaches to arrange the grammar, vocabulary, and function lessons. I learnt that for a vocabulary lesson we can use the straight arrow approach and for a grammar lesson we are more effective by using the patchwork approach. On the other hand, for our teaching language functions lesson we may be more effective by using the boomerang or patchwork approach. I also learnt important criteria that should be taking into account when selecting the vocabulary to be taught.
