Watching the first lesson plan and imagining it from the learners point of view, I would have felt very uncomfortable and not willing to participate. The teacher jumps right into it with out really explaining the goal of the lesson or engaging the students. You can tell by the students lack of participation and body language that they were confused and not understanding the lesson. The teacher's attitude in the first lesson was also very negative and discouraging. The second lesson was a lot more engaging and inviting. The teachers attitude was more positive and encouraging which resulted in more participation from the students. He spoke more clearly and slowly and went over things a couple times to ensure the students understood what they were supposed to be doing. Compared to the first lesson, the second lesson seemed more organized as well. Imagining myself as a student in the second lesson, I felt more comfortable and encouraged to participate. Through these videos I learned that a teachers attitude, from the moment they walk into class, can determine how successful the lesson is going to be. Rapport with the students is crucial and patience is key. As a teacher we have to remember that the English language is new and different compared to their native language. Vocabulary that comes easy and natural to us, may not be as easy and natural to the students. It is our job to help them understand, in the clearest way possible, while also making it an enjoyable experience.
