When it comes to reading and listening to texts, it is important to carefully select texts that the students will be able to relate to and understand. You want to make sure that the topics you choose are of interest to the students to help ensure that they participate during the lesson and are encouraged to learn. I am learning that it is really important to get to know your students, not only to build a good rapport, but also to create a lesson that interests them. It is also important to figure out beforehand which vocabulary words you need to pre-teach, from the reading or audio excerpt, to help students have a better understanding of the material and remove any obstacles they may face with challenging words.
