Phonology is harpy taught in native English speaking schools as we learn through a type of trail and error method. In order to teach it to students of a foreign country a good understanding is required, especially because the entire meaning of a sentence can be misunderstood based on incorrect pronunciation and the incorrect placement of stress. Time should be given to teaching this aspect, although I feel that it should be done constantly in little amounts as to not bore, or confuse the students.
Differences in pronunciation and intonation can be found across English speakers from different countries. As a South African, we have a different style of intonation compared to an English speaker from USA. It is also important to highlight this to the students as it may cause confusion during conversations with different English speakers.
