This unit introduces us to such complex grammatical units as modal verbs, voices, clauses and phrasal verbs. These grammar aspects are challenging for most students up to the Intermediate level of English. Not only are there a number of rules and exceptions to be memorized but also the knowledge of them does not necessarily give the students confidence in their proper use. The reason is that the difference between, for example, modals verbs is not that obvious causing lots of confusion. Moreover, modal verbs may be translated into students' native language without any difference in spelling. Phrasal verbs are difficult to comprehend because the main verb very seldom means anything similar to it together with a preposition. Authentic materials and conversations with native speakers will help students' improve their understanding of these grammatical structures.
