There are many characteristics of a good teacher, the most important being that he or she cares more about student learning than the teacher's teaching. A good teacher is also sensitive to the students' age, culture (how they approach learning and the teacher/student relationship), language level, and motivation and takes all of these factors into consideration when selecting activities and instructing the classes. Good learners similarly have different characteristics and are receptive to instruction as a result of their age, previous learning experiences, cultural training, language awareness, life experiences, and motivation. The success of teaching and learning depends on the teacher taking all of these factors into consideration and using the information in crafting learning activities and carrying out instruction.
