This unit has discussed the several methods that have been employed to teach English, some which have become outdated.It is difficult to decide which method is the best, but it would seem that a combination of a number could be best, depending upon the teacher and the students. It is important to note that students need great exposure to English, input from the teacher who can facilitate communication tasks to assist in the leaning process. It is important to allow student to feel stress free and keep anxiety at a minimum. An effective way to teach is to utilize the Engage Study Activate Method. This method can be changed in order as needed to keep the interest of the student especially as they advance . The Engage stage is to encourage the student to give as much of their knowledge of English in a fun and non threatening way, games, music pictures, stories etc can be used . The study stage where the student can focus more on the construction of the language . It can also assist the teacher in knowing where she needs to assist the student. The Activate stage is where the student can use the words and skills they have learnt in a free way not focusing on fluency. These stages can be changed to give more opportunity to teach at a higher level of the language .The Boomerang method or Patchwork method , allow for great flexibly and provide an nice balance , it is important that a lesson begins with Engage and ends with Activation. I have learnt that it is very important that a teacher must keep correction to a minimum , dont interrupt a student and encourage the student to self correct or allow the class to assist in the correction. Corrections must be used if the mistake becomes ingrained , or impedes understanding or the point is not understood. Creating an environment which makes learning fun and keep stress low will facilitate a good outcome
