The use of equipment and teaching aids allows for a teacher to truly employ diverse methods during their lessons. This diversity allows for lessons to remain fresh and interactive, maximizing student motivation and engagement. Daily use of equipment and teaching aids requires the instructor to have a deep knowledge of such tools if they are to be utilized most effectively.
Teachers using equipment frequently run into trouble when the technology fails and they are not otherwise prepared. In order to maximize the potential of a lesson that uses technology as teaching aids, teachers must be prepared to continue the lesson in a different manner. Combining preparation with knowledge of equipment, the classroom becomes a vibrant, interactive place.
Sharing relative media with students can lead to great classroom conversation, and can provide them with enormous amounts of cultural context, and general context, for their new language. Pairing images with new words allows for increased comprehension. Rather than using subtitles in the students' native languages, I wonder about using subtitles in English. Could this be too much stimulation? Or are students generally able to process the visual, auditory, and written information well enough? I don't know!
