This unit stresses on the importance of teaching phonetics to the students. Teachers are encouraged to go out of their way to master phonetics as this is a key to proper pronunciation in English language. If the goal of communication which is that the meaning being conveyed by the speaker is understood by the listener is to be achieved, then phonetics has to be taught. I also learnt in this unit that English language has a system of sound that determines the sound of words, not necessarily the spellings of the words.
