Unit 19 discusses the different types of special groups are available for teaching besides upper level college and high school students. One such group is beginners which can range from absolute beginner to adult beginner and may include learners who do not already know the Roman alphabet. Another type of group is teaching individuals one-on-one. Although teaching individuals can tailor the lessons to their individual needs, it can become rote or boring, so teachers should be prepared to have different activities that students find interesting. Another group that needs the lesson to be interesting is young learners like children. Teaching children can have challenges that teaching adults may not have such as the need to maintain classroom behavior. However teaching a different group like Business English will have its own challenges like varied motivation and skills abilities. The final groups discussed were monolingual and multilingual in which all the students either speak the same language or all speak different languages (respectively.) For all of these groups, teachers must be prepared for potential problems and should be culturally appropriate.
