Oyama, Japan TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
I have learned about what is a good teacher, a good student, a less good teacher and less good student. It is interesting to learn about different roles the teacher can take in a class room situation, also about what is good behavior contra less good behavior as a good and motivating teacher. I've learned about f.ex the role as a model, where the teacher performs the English language in front of the students. The role as prompter where the teacher ask a follow up question to encourage the student to answer for themselves, without giving the answer. The unit talks about the different levels of the students. From beginner, intermediate to advanced and describes how much the student is able to perform on each level. I've learned how important it is to have passion about teaching, to pass on a tool in a way that makes it interesting for the student to follow the class, with different kinds of activities, -partner work/group work, solo work, listening, debating etc. It is important to motivate the students, especially the younger ones, who might not have chosen to be there by themselves. This can be done with different fun activities, -games, singing and so on. The unit just touches briefly about this.
It is also important to correct, but in a way so that the student feel secure and not put down by the teacher. A very informative unit, especially for me, because I'm a dance teacher, and can use some of this information in my daily life. As well as I can combine and add some of my own personal experiences from the dance teaching into the language teaching.
