This unit gave me a detailed insight regarding the receptive skills of all individuals, which are two, reading and listening. All people read and listen in order to either be entertained or for a higher purpose, such as understanding and learning. Human beings make sense of everything they see and hear by relating them to an already existing knowledge of the world as they know it. Teachers have to be aware of the ways they present new material to their students, and be especially careful of the type of material they choose to teach their students, especially as far as new vocabulary and text is concerned. Teachers have to choose texts and vocabulary that is best suited for their students' abilities and knowledge in order to promote understanding and subsequently learning. The material presented to the students does not have to be neither too easy nor too difficult but challenging and interesting enough in order to have the whole class engaged and achieve learning.
