This unit looks at modals, the passive voice, and phrasal verbs. Modals are like grammatical time machines; they say what could, would or should have happened. There are also ways to describe obligation (must, have to) and possibility (may, might). The passive voice is used when we don't know who did an action: The house was built in 1920. We understand the action and the subject but not who has acted upon the subject.
