This unit has taught me the difference between authentic and inauthentic materials, and the advantages and disadvantages of each in ESL lessons. It has made me think about how authentic materials can be used to engage and motivate students, and what kinds of materials there are (such as newspaper articles, blogs, and TV shows). It has also taught me the value of inauthentic materials, and how they are particularly useful to structure a course and to help guide particularly beginner learners.
