From this unit, I have learned the different kinds of modal verb and how they may be used in a sentence. I have also learned about the active vs passive voice in a sentence, and how they may be used to elicit different kinds of meaning (such as emphasising the importance of a particular object or person). The unit has also got me thinking about how different levels of certainty are articulated in the English language, and how this might be conveyed to students learning English.
