Lilongwe, Malawi TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
- This unit explains that Modal Auxiliary Verbs (can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to) are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb (in its base form). On a daily basis they can be used to express necessity, uncertainty, ability or permission. They don't change in form according to person.
- This unit also covers the passive voice, comparing it to the active voice. In the active voice, the focus is on the agent, the one who is carrying out the action (i.e. The teacher dropped the pen). In the passive voice the focus is on whoever or whatever is acted upon (i.e. The pen was dropped by the teacher).
- Phrasal verbs are reviwed too. They consist of a verb plus one or two particles, which may be a preposition or an adverb, or an adverb plus a preposition. Learning phrasal verbs is an important step for students to gain proficiency and aim for a more natural speaking style.
