Conditionals are sentences that contain the words 'if' or 'when'. There are five main conditionals: zero, first, second, third and mixed. Zero conditional is formed by if/when and the rest of the sentence is written in the present tense. This conditional refers to the actions and facts that are irrefutable. for example, the pot will get hot if you put it over the fire. The first conditional talks about a real situation in the future that is possible once the condition is satisfied. For example, if he stays up watching videos all night, he will be too tired to wake up for school. The second conditional communicates a present or future hypothetical situation that is unlikely to ever happen. For example, if I found one thousand dollars on the floor, I would go to Hawaii. In direct speech the words are quoted exactly as they were said and in reported speech or indirect speech the tenses in the sentences change because you are no longer saying it at the moment it was told to you. The reported speech changes to the past tense.
