This unit was focused on the production of sounds and the importance pronunciation plays in carrying the message of the speaker. There are three important factors to consider in phonology, they are stress, rhythm, and intonation. While stress relates to individual word sounds, intonation deals with the rise and fall of pitch and volume of the speaker. These patterns can be used to imply suggestion, questions, agreement/disagreement, surprise, or ending thought. Even a flat tone can be used to display disinterest.
