Pronunciation is often not taught in the classroom because teachers are not confident in their ability to teach it, but pronunciation is very important for students to learn. If a Japanese student can learn the phonemic alphabet, then it can be used as a teaching tool for the rest of their time learning English and other similar languages. Intonation is a large part of learning how to speak. There are three different types of intonation. 1. The rise-fall intonation which expresses a statement that does not require an answer. 2. The fall-rise intonation that typically requires an answer. 3. The flat line intonation can be used to expresses disinterest. Speakers can stress different words in a sentence to get their meaning across. There are phonemic symbols that can be learned that represent only one sound, while the letters in the English alphabet can represent many different sounds. To improve articulation, a teacher can teach their students the different parts of the mouth. Knowing the location and motions of the mouth to make the sounds of the English language can help students learn to pronounce the words with near native fluency.
