Modals add meaning to the main verb. They express obligation, probability, permission, ability, and advice. They include should, could, can, must, will, and others. One way to teach modal auxiliary verbs is to pick one situation and use several different modals in that situation so that the students can compare when to use each one. The situation could be that their friend needs to see a doctor, and the students come up with sentences with different degrees of certainty around that situation. Modals can be difficult to teach.
In English, the important parts of the sentence are often found at the beginning. This is seen in the difference between passive and active sentences. When the object is important you use the passive voice, but when the subject is important you use the active voice. Either way, the more important noun is in the first half of the sentence.
