In the first lesson, create a bond between you and your students. It is important to start with a strong relationship. Trust is going to be needed in the classroom. Start with games that help students get to know other students, as well as yourself. Some of these games include toss the ball, where questions or names can be exchanged, or questionnaires that the students fill out. Whatever you do, the first day should be fun! During the school year, there might be tough, lazy Monday mornings. You can start those days with a game like hangman. Do not be afraid to be flexible to change the plan based on the tone of the students.
Large classes are more difficult than smaller ones. You can use pair work, worksheets, and choral repetition to teach larger classes. Try not to have the students use their native language. Get them motivated to speak in English. Do not be afraid to help students conquer their weakest point. Sometimes this is the listening element. Do not back away form an element just because it is difficult for students! Keep going and find a way to help them gain confidence in that skill. Overall have fun teaching, and help your students to have fun learning.
