This unit discussed the grammar rules for the conditional form and how direct speech is converted to reported speech.
The five main conditional forms are:
1. Zero conditional - if/when + present tense, present tense
2. First conditional - if + present simple, will
3. Second conditional - if + past simple, would/could/might + base form
4. Third conditional - if + past perfect, would/could/might + have + past participle
5. Mixed conditional - if + past perfect, would + base form
Conveying what was said (directly to me) by someone, to someone else is referred to as 'reported speech'. The various rules for converting from direct to reported speech were covered in detail.
