I found this unit to be a little confusing. It did not seem to have many up-to-date materials I could use with only a couple exceptions. I would have liked for it to have had more information regarding interactive white boards, for example, as that is a new technology I would like to know more about. I have never even seen an overhead projector or a cassette player in a school, nor a CD player as they are typically built-in to computers. I would have also liked to have seen more information about using computers or tablets in the classroom, as that is a common situation I don't have as many ideas for. There are a lot of new technologies, such as a document camera, that would have been nice to read about in this section. There are also many applications available for computers and Smartphones and I would have liked to have learned about some new ones. I agree that the board is an important piece of equipment (and I agree with the unit that it is important to write neatly, accurately, cleanly, and clearly), but perhaps there could have been more time spent on newer things. To be honest, I found that the most informative and helpful part of the unit were the resources provided in the back. There were some nice resources there for various units, such as literature or poetry and various media outlets for students to get authentic output. Overall, to be honest, for the first time, I was a little disappointed with this chapter. I did not see it as particularly up-to-date or helpful for me, when it could have focused on much more recent information. I was really looking forward to hearing about some new technologies I could bring into my classroom, but I found that this chapter was more about reviewing the purpose of older technologies. However, it did give me time to reflect on what I am already using and I will seek out other newer technologies on my own. This chapter did help me recognize the importance of materials that I use.
